i plan on using 4 1000 xxxl 8 inch hoods in a row, with 10 inch can fan in a 8x16 space. will this set up be cool enough without ac???

It depends on what climate you live in. If it's over around 70 degrees you will need a/c.
Also, if you plan to run 4 inline, it's going to get too hot. You might consider having a separate inlet for each light.
If you run 4 together on 1 inlet, the light at the end will get hotter than the rest.

not if you can think like paddington bear... (!)

They way you describe is venting the lights in series -

if you vent in parallel then each light will get the same temp air -
only then at the exhaust where they combine will it get hot - after the lamps

it's a set-up I've used before - air-intake fan > lamps > exhaust

I doubt it, 4 1000w are gonna chuck out mega heat, even aircooled. Your gonna need to get your growroom intake and extraction working perfectly, whats the outside temp where you live now and whats it likley to reach in the hieght of summer?. Where i live i would have trouble using my 3 600w aircooled hps without ac in the summer. Winter months aint a problem but summers a differnent kettle of fish.
