View Full Version : cracked socket

I'm wondering if I need to replace the socket for my 250W HPS set-up. The ceramic cover is broken and exposes about half of the area of the metal threaded socket. My set-up has never been a fire hazard in the past and I'm hoping this won't affect safely running my light. Any suggestions? I've seen replacement sockets online for $10-12...

While there is a good chance you will never have a problem, I still highly recommend that you replace the socket as soon as possible. $12 is a small price to pay to avoid electrocution of yourself or someone else. It's very easy to replace the socket. It takes only about 10 minutes and requires simple household tools (probably only a screwdriver, depending on which system you have).
