How many lights can a single ballast operate? I'm interested in starting my own thing but can't seem to find this out. Would I need to buy a ballast for each light or is it alright to run a few off one?

A single ballast is designed to power a single light at a time, unless you get into the dual spectrum light ballast which allow you to run a M.H lamp and an H.P.S. lamp in the same reflector at the same time.

Assuming your going to use the regular ballast, you would need as many ballasts as lights you plan on running.

Some people utilize half as many ballasts as they do lights by the use of a relay flip-flop timer and two separate flowering rooms. The ballasts run one room for 12 hours and then a timer switches them to operate the other room for 12 hours back and forth. This is more efficient but not for everyone.
