Default Noob - looking for a meter

I have been in the process of setting up a hydroponics systems for quite sometime now. I want to do this right and ensure I have everything that I need to properly do this right. I have decided on an EBB & Flow system, I have all the needed lights (1-400 watt HPS and 1-400 watt MH/for the color temp factor) I have a grow tent, and various smaller things. I even went as far as installing an entire house RO/DI system.

Now I am stuck, I have done mucho research on meters. I have played with Control Wizard, Hanna, Oakton, Sharp, Milwaukee, Bluelab, and sunleaves meters. However I cannot find out which I should choose over the other. Should I buy a PPM meter like the Control Wizard 24/7 3 in 1, or should I buy a TDS meter. I cannot find any information in regards to PPM and TDS and which one is superior over the other.

    Thank You

    Cool Buying meters

Whatever you do, buy a waterproof meter. It's not good having a hydroponics system started with no TDS meter. Your going at it blind. Just got my TDS meter today and trying to figure out how to use the readings to benefit the system. I bought my 1st TDS meter and my pH meter off ebay. The pH meter is great, but had to send the TDS meter back (not working). Got tired of waiting for it and bought one from Pretty simple to use. Hope that helps.

I'm sure you've heard the saying "you get what you pay for". Well, this is a perfect example. I have personally wasted my money on inexpensive pH meters like this in the past and I can tell you first hand that they are a waste of money, at least if you plan to use them in a hydro system.

If you want an inexpensive pH meter that actually works, try this:

Took the words right out of my mouth Dave. Also if anyone is interested in a meter that just about does it all, check this one out! I've been using it for about a year and a half now and no problems at all! Easily calibrated and very user friendly. Hasn't let me down yet!

    Hope this helps!

If you find the solution to your problem and take the time to post that youve solved it, perhaps you should also include your solution with the post in case someone else is having the same issue you did.

Choose the meters which assure you successful hydroponics garden growth. You need to try handy three-Way Meter which helps you to test moisture, light, and pH levels.
